Environmental Impact Assessment to be completed between Coillte and Munster 4x4 to assess all routes used by Munster 4x4

N.B Munster 4x4 has responsibility to ensure that all damages caused by Munster 4x4 are made good within the forest. No other events are authorised within the forest except those organised by Munster 4x4 on the above dates. Due to the high impact of 4x4 off roading and the environmental sensitivity of the forest strict adherence to the agreed routes is essential. Also the mitigation measures outlines in Environmental Impact Assessment must be adhered to. This is to ensure the ongoing sustainability of 4x4 off roading. Munster 4x4 have sole rights to the Ballyhoura and Nagle mountains for off roading events to ensure this sustainability is maintained.
Coillte is audited annually to ensure our forests are run in an environmentally sustainable manner. In a process called Forest Certification, this Certification is required to sell our timber into the market place. If Coillte are deemed to be in breach of this Certification Standard, it could be suspended, which would result in Coillte being excluded from the timber market.
Example of breaches: Driving 4x4’s through streams, causing severe erosion in Siltation of streams.
If these breaches were found to take place in Timber Harvesting or Forest Establishment, this would result in automatic suspension of the Certification. The same applies to 4x4 Off Roading.
